Non-Immigrant Visas
Medical Treatment
Applicants for visas for medical treatment should follow the steps described for other visas. Urgent appointments in cases of medical emergency may be requested via the Emergency Appointment Request procedures. In addition, the following documents will be needed:
- A complete diagnosis (x-ray, lab test, etc) from the medical doctor in Vietnam;
- A second opinion report from a different doctor in Vietnam;
- A letter from the hospital or Vietnamese doctor stating that treatment is not available in Vietnam;
- A letter from the doctor in the U.S. describing the treatment involved, the time needed for the patient's recovery and if hospitalization and further follow-up treatment will be required;
- A statement from an admitting hospital in the U.S. stating type of treatment to be given and the hospital cost involved;
- Proof of adequate medical insurance to cover medical costs, or an affidavit of support from the person financially responsible for transportation and medical expenses while in the U.S.; and
- Tax returns for the last three years for the person or persons financially responsible.
At the interview, the officer will determine if the medical condition of the applicant requires going to the U.S. If the interviewing officer decides to issue the medical visa, the applicant may pick it up on the same day he/she applies.
