Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, Mr. Jonathan Aloisi, remarks at the Vietnam International Intellectual Property Law Conference 2006
(Hanoi November 21) On November 20, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, Mr. Jonathan Aloisi, delivered welcoming remarks at the Vietnam International Intellectual Property Law Conference 2006 hosted by the Vietnam Intellectual Property Association (VIPA) and the Vietnam Intellectual Property Institute (VIPI). Mr. Aloisi was joined by the Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Mr. Bui Manh Hai and a distinguished lineup of speakers including U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officials, international IP experts, Vietnamese government officials, and legal and business representatives from Vietnamese and foreign organizations. Participants discussed intellectual property rights enforcement opportunities and challenges posed by integration into the global economy.
Mr. Aloisi underscored that intellectual property rights protection is in the national interests of both the Vietnamese and the U.S. Governments. He noted that conferences like yesterday’s, which bring together government and industry, “contribute significantly by fostering dialogue, disseminating important information and raising awareness of both industry representatives and government officials.” Mr. Aloisi commended Vietnam further on the steps it has taken to advance that protection through legislation and public relations, while observing that all sides recognize much more must be done. The United States stands ready to help Vietnam succeed in this effort.
