Fulbright Program in Vietnam Welcomes Returning Vietnamese Students

October 29, 2007

The Fulbright Program in Vietnam held a Re-entry Seminar in Hoi An on October 26-28, 2007 to welcome back to Vietnam twelve Fulbright students who recently completed Master’s Degree study in the United States.  The students, who completed two years of study, received Master’s Degrees in such fields as International Relations, Economic Development, Journalism, Public Policy, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.  The Vietnamese Fulbright students studied at a variety of American universities, including Harvard, Princeton, Syracuse, the University of Missouri, and George Washington University.  During the two-day seminar in Hoi An, grantees shared experiences from their life and study in the United States and discussed ways they can use their new knowledge to help in the development of Vietnam’s economy and society.

Since the Fulbright Vietnamese Student Program began in 1992, more than 350 Vietnamese students have received Master’s Degrees in the United States.  Each year, 20-25 Vietnamese citizens receive Fulbright scholarships for study in the U.S. funded by the U.S. Congress.  The principal goal of the Fulbright Program is the creation of deeper mutual understanding between the American and Vietnamese peoples through academic exchange.  More information on the Fulbright Program is available at: http://vietnam.usembassy.gov/fulbright.html.
