Delta Construction selected as one of finalists for 2006 Award for Corporate Excellence

The U.S. Mission in Vietnam is pleased to announce that Delta Construction, a Hanoi-based, 100% American owned company, has been selected as one of twelve finalists for the Secretary of State’s prestigious 2006 Award for Corporate Excellence.  It was one of 55 companies nominated by United States Ambassadors from around the world.  The Award for Corporate Excellence finalists are international business leaders who recognize the vital role that U.S. businesses play abroad as good corporate citizens.

Ambassador Michael Marine’s nomination of Delta Construction and its Director Alfonso DeMatteis cited examples of the company’s outstanding professional efforts and humanitarian efforts in Vietnam.  Specifically, he highlighted the active participation of Mr. DeMatteis and Delta in the business community, Delta’s exemplary employment practices, the high quality of the workplace, and the efforts of the DeMatteis Family Charitable Foundation, established by Delta, to help the poor and disadvantaged children of Vietnam.   

The Secretary of State has awarded the Award for Corporate Excellence since 1999 in recognition of the role that U.S. businesses play in advancing good corporate citizenship, innovation and democratic principles.  The Department of State is committed to working with American business to further these best practices worldwide and to recognize the contribution business makes to improving lives at home and abroad. 

The other finalists for 2006 are:  APCO in China; Chevron in Indonesia; Coca-Cola in Mexico; General Motors in Colombia in Chile; Kerr McGee in Benin; McDonald’s in Guatemala; Microsoft in Egypt; Motorola in Iraq; Pfizer in Pakistan; and Sambazon in Brazil.

One or more winners will be selected from these 12 finalists.  Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will announce the 2006 Award for Corporate Excellence winners on November 6 at an awards ceremony at the State Department in Washington, DC.
