Immediately upon receipt of the Vietnamese Government’s call for international support, the United States Embassy announced today that it would make a contribution to support relief operations following the devastation caused by Typhoon Lekima in Central Vietnam. The Embassy, through the U.S. Agency for International Development's Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance, has provided $100,000 to the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent to support the efforts of the Vietnamese Red Cross in the area. The U.S. Embassy is considering significant additional contributions in the coming days to support recovery activities and strengthen emergency preparedness in the most affected provinces.
In his letter of condolence to the Government of Vietnam and the people affected, Chargé d'Affaires, ad interim Jonathan Aloisi said, ”The United States is proud to stand once again as a partner with the Government of Vietnam in its relief efforts, and will do all we can to assist those affected by this terrible natural disaster."
