The United States helps Vietnamese Ships Enter American Ports More Easily
October 3, 2007
The United States and Vietnam Register participated in a Port State Control workshop today in Hanoi. This special training, conducted by the United States Coast Guard, representatives from the American Bureau of Shipping and senior Vietnamese maritime officials, was designed to help vessels flying the Vietnamese flag to enter U.S. waters and access U.S. ports. The U.S. Embassy’s Counselor for Economic Affairs, Alan Tousignant, opened the event and noted that today’s seminar was just one more step in the growing economic partnership between Vietnam and the United States.
Port State Control is the inspection of foreign ships in national ports to verify that the condition of the ship and its equipment comply with the requirements of international regulations and that the ship is manned and operated in compliance with these rules.
