United States Government Sponsors Patent Examination Training Program in Hanoi

August 30, 2007

The United States Government will sponsor an August 27-30 training program on patent examination for officials from Vietnam's National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP).   The program is being supported by the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi and led by three Patent Attorneys from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), based in Alexandria, Virginia, who combined bring more than 40 years' experience in patent examination and training to Vietnam.  The USPTO experts are sharing best practices, experiences, and the U.S. Government approach to a number of patent examination issues with approximately 50 officials from the NOIP.

This August 27-30 workshop builds on the long-running relationship the United States Government has established with the Government of Vietnam to improve intellectual property rights protection and enforcement initiatives here.  Since 2006, the U.S. Government has funded more than 60 Vietnamese officials for travel to the United States to participate in GIPA training courses.  Additionally, USPTO and other U.S. government experts have conducted training for senior legal, judicial and public prosecutorial officials on IPR enforcement in Hanoi and the United States.
