Please be informed that planning by Vietnamese and U.S. officials is taking place for a possible visit by a U.S. Navy ship to Da Nang in late July, 2004.

To allow proper planning, Press Officer Albert Kraaimoore of the U.S. Consulate in HCMC and Press Assistant Pham Trong Thuc of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi will provide by telephone dates for the visit on the basis that this information is embargoed for release until the day of the ship arrival.

NOTE ON CREDENTIALS: Journalists planning to visit Da Nang for the ship visit should send an email to Press Officer Kraaimoore for consideration for inclusion in pools/tours during the visit. We ask that you supply full names, job title, passport number, date of birth, place of birth, and sponsoring Media institution. We ask producers/team leaders to provide cell phone numbers for text-messaging and other communications during the visit. Information should be sent to the following email address before 5:00 p.m., July 22, 2004:

ALSO SEND A SMALL DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPH TO KraaimooreAJ@state.gov for use with credentials.

NOTE ON FOREIGN JOURNALISTS WISHING TO ENTER VIETNAM TO COVER THIS EVENT: They should contact the Press and Information Department (PID) and the Foreign Press Center (FPC) of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs by mail, fax or email.

They should state in their letters/faxes/email messages:

  1. Purpose of their trip, length of stay, where in Vietnam they will visit, who they want to interview (meaning leaders or famous figures, not ordinary people),

     

  2. Name, job title (reporter, cameraman, etc), date of birth, place of birth, passport number, place where they can pick up the Vietnamese visa, and

     

  3. List of equipment they plan to bring with them.

     

The PID will process their request and will inform them if their request is accepted or not. If yes, the PID will also inform them to apply for visa at a Vietnamese embassy convenient for them.

The FPC is responsible for escorting them and preventing them from doing what the authorities consider inappropriate while they are in Vietnam.

TV reporters should keep in mind that what they shoot in Vietnam may have to be reviewed by PID and FPC people before being shipped or transmitted out of Vietnam.
