“Sacred Legacy” Exhibition Opens in Hanoi
The U.S. Embassy in Hanoi and the National Library of Vietnam are honored to host the “Sacred Legacy” exhibit which will run from June 4 to June 16, 2007 at the National Library of Vietnam (31 Trang Thi, Hanoi). This unique collection was created expressly for the United States Department of State. It features 60 photographic prints by renowned U.S. photographer and ethnographer Edward S. Curtis that illustrate the broad and extraordinary diversity among the North American tribes.
The images are printed in a variety of sizes and media reflecting the impact of the photographed individual or object. The images represent the diverse cultural geographic regions in which Edward S. Curtis worked and studied, and illustrate his artistry in portrait, landscape, still life and ceremonial photography.
The U.S. Government sponsors exhibits which introduce the cultures and peoples of the United States to the people of Vietnam, and also supports programs in the United States, like the on-going Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C., which increase the American people's understanding of Vietnam. Through understanding, the peoples of both nations grow closer together.
All are welcome and encouraged to visit this unique collection of American photographic history. The National Library is open to the public every day from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
