Fulbright Program in Vietnam Celebrates 10th Anniversary of The Vietnamese Scholar Program (1998 – 2008)
The Fulbright Program in Vietnam held a special conference to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its Vietnamese Scholar Program on June 21, 2008 in Hoi An Town, Quang Nam Province.
About 50 Fulbright alumni throughout Vietnam, and officials from universities in Quang Nam, Da Nang and Hue attended the ceremony and Symposium “10 Year Anniversary Vietnamese Scholar Program: 1998-2008.” At the Symposium, alumni gave presentations on their Fulbright experiences, the Fulbright impact and the future of the Fulbright program. These events were also a chance to reconnect and strengthen the Fulbright alumni network, and to engage the alumni in activities to develop a stronger Fulbright Program in Vietnam.
From 1998 through 2008, the Fulbright Vietnamese Scholar Program has sent 70 scholars from different fields of study to the United States for research and/or lecturing. In its efforts to expand the program, Fulbright has approached many institutions throughout Vietnam to make sure that scholars participating in the program have broad regional diversity.
Alumni of the Fulbright Vietnamese Scholar Program have made significant contributions to their institutions after returning from the United States. Credit-based educational administration and higher education accreditation have been among the important subjects researched by Fulbright Scholars.
Together with other Fulbright Programs of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, the Vietnamese Scholar Program remains committed to the Fulbright Program’s primary goal of “increasing mutual understanding through educational and cultural exchange.”
