U.S. Company Motorola, Ministry Honor Best IT Students And Software Companies
Hanoi, February 29, 2008 – The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) and Motorola Inc. co-hosted a joint award ceremony today for 24 Information Technology students from leading universities in recognition of their academic excellence. Twenty selected software and digital content companies were also recognized for their excellent software and strong business models.
Mr. Donald G. Nay, Counselor for Commercial Affairs of the U.S. Embassy Hanoi participated in the ceremony, along with Dr. Tran Duc Lai, Vice Minister of Information & Communications, and Mr. R. David Knapp, General Director, Motorola Vietnam. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nay said, "There is no question that one of Vietnam's biggest challenges, as it enters into the fast lane of the global economy, is to educate and train a workforce capable of providing world class products and services. To this end, there needs to be both private and public sector efforts. We therefore think the efforts of both the Ministry and Information and Communications and Motorola are making in this area should be recognized and emulated by others."
From 2003 to 2007, MIC and Motorola worked together to train 320 software experts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The program awarded scholarships for roughly 130 excellent IT students from Vietnam’s leading universities, recognized 40 software companies for their excellent software quality and business performance and provided great support to the Vietnam Ministry of Post and Telecommunications in the overall management of the software and digital content industries.
