U.S. Ambassador to Present Inspection Equipment to Vietnamese Customs and Border Army on March 1, 2007

February 28, 2007

U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Michael W. Marine will present U.S. Government-funded inspection equipment to Vietnam's Department of Customs and Border Army on March 1, in Hanoi.  The handover ceremony will begin at 2:50 p.m., at the headquarters of General Department of Customs, #162 Nguyễn Văn Cừ Street, Gia Lam, Hanoi.  Media representatives will be welcome.

The equipment is donated to Vietnam as part of the U.S. Government's Export Control and Border Security (or EXBS) program, through which the U.S. Government seeks to share its experience in the area of export control in order to help other countries improve their ability to prevent the transfer of weapons of mass destruction and missile related items.  The U.S.'s goal is to continue working with the Government of Vietnam to promote effective ways of controlling the trade of materials that could benefit weapon of mass destruction programs without impairing the flow of legitimate trade.
