United States F.B. I. Director Robert S. Mueller III Visits Vietnam
Hanoi, January 30, 2008
The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.) Robert S. Mueller III visited Hanoi today to meet with senior Vietnamese Law Enforcement officials and to discuss the many areas of ongoing U.S. – Vietnam cooperation. Director Mueller’s Vietnam stop is part of a regional visit which includes China and Cambodia.
In his discussions with senior officials at the Ministry of Public Security, Director Mueller thanked the Government of Vietnam for its cooperation on law enforcement issues, and highlighted the F.B.I.’s commitment to strengthening this relationship between the United States and Vietnam, and to further enhance cooperation in a variety of critical areas in this era of increasing transnational crime.
“No one person, no one agency, no one police department, and no one country has all the answers,” said Director Mueller. “This is why our relationship with our Vietnamese partners is such an important one. I look forward to continuing our cooperation in combating crime in its many forms.”
On January 31, the F.B.I. Director will preside over a ceremony marking the opening of a new U.S. Legal Attaché Office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This new office – the 60th Legal Attaché Bureau around the world - will serve both Cambodia and Vietnam.
