This wacky comedy stars Rodney Dangerfield as self-made millionaire Thornton Melon, who decides to get a better education and enrolls at son Jason's college. While Jason (Keith Gordon) struggles just to fit in with his snobbish fellow students, Thornton struggles gain his son's respect -- giving way to hilarious antics. Sally Kellerman co-stars as an English professor who encourages father and son to stick out their first year despite the odds.

In this workshop, the consonants and vowels that typically cause difficulties for Vietnamese speakers will be reviewed and communicative activities to address these problem areas will be explored and practiced. Participants will also learn about sounds (Aaah!, Huh? etc.) that have communicative meaning in English and practice using them to respond to common situations. Participants will be encouraged to self-monitor their own speech to perceive patterns of strengths and weaknesses in their own pronunciation of English.

Music lyrics are always an interesting way to learn about English, both for vocabulary and listening comprehension. During the session, we will run through several pop music songs from the United States, first trying to following the lyrics, then studying song in depth to understand the writer’s intent. Attendees should have at least intermediate English.
