If you would like to be an American Center member, please register. Our office is located on the 1st Floor of the Rose Garden Tower at 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi. You can leave your vehicle at VKO Supermarket's vehicle keeping area. Remember to take your ID with you.

Music Performance: American Pop Music

Time: 16:00-17:30, July 1, 2009

Musical Nomads, Brad and Julienne McKee, will perform popular American music for American Center students and Embassy staff! The duo bring a full acoustic sound to their music with beautiful finger style guitar and bass playing, both male and female lead vocals, as well as nicely blended vocal harmonies. Brad and Julienne have been performing  together as an acoustic duo in both the USA and South East Asia over the last several years and have been highly praised and enjoyed by locals, expats, and tourists alike.

Film Show: 1776

A musical celebration of the founding of the USA based on the award-winning Broadway production. This is the story of the days leading up to July 4, 1776 and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Round Table Discussion: Public Transportation in the U.S.

Please come join Sean Donovan, American Center Assistant and our group of students as we discuss Public Transportation in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!  If you are interested in traveling from Boston to New York to Washington D.C. by train, bus, or subway, we can give you tips on what you need to prepare to make the trip. We will go over various types of Public Transportation to help you decide what kind of transportation you want to take. The group is also open to anyone who wishes to practice their English skills! Registration is on a first come, first served basis as we can only welcome the first 30 students.

Music Jam Session

Play music? sing? Want to come and hear some good tunes? Then come join us Wednesday July 8th, from 3:00pm-5:00pm, for a fun filled afternoon with music played by student musicians at our Music Jam Session, hosted by American Center Assistant Sean Donovan! If you are interested in contributing a performance please sign up and prepare 1-2 songs, and get ready to jump on stage Wednesday!  Hope to see you all there!

Discussion on Teamwork Skills

Come discuss the basics of teamwork with American Center Assistant Sean Donovan, on Thursday morning. We will go over how to approach a team situation, and how to work together to come up with coordinated results!  Games will played that emphasize teamwork and put individuals right into a team situation! Speaker Program: U.S. Trade Policy and U.S.-Vietnam Trade Relations

You are invited to attend this special presentation at Foreign Trade University (FTU). Deputy U.S. Trade Representative (USTR), Demetrios Marantis, will speak on U.S. trade policy and U.S.-Vietnam trade relations. Demetrios Marantis serves as Deputy USTR, nominated for this position by President Barack Obama, and confirmed by the Senate on May 6, 2009. He is responsible for U.S. trade negotiations and enforcement in Asia and Africa. He also leads USTR global initiatives on trade and development, labor, and the environment. We will discuss about boarding school (what I have to learn in school, living with different people, eating at school, what I do on free time); sports I played (basketball, soccer, tennis, golf); feelings about school (the good things and the bad things about boarding school, the difference and the similarities between living with your family and friends, and other personal information).

The United States is an extremely diverse country with people from almost every country in the world. Despite this tremendously rich demographic diversity, the United States has its own unique culture and the people share common cultural traits, values and beliefs that forge the character of the American people. It is thus possible to identify some salient traits that distinguish and the identity and behavior of her people. What are some of these cultural traits? Glean a deeper understanding of the country and people through a cross-cultural discussion on American ways.
