Baseball is one of America’s favorite sports. This film is based on the true story of the All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League, founded in 1943. During the 1940’s, most young men in America were sent to fight in World War II. Women, traditionally expected to stay at home to take care of their families, began to work in factories and businesses in order to keep the country running. Baseball team owners tried to keep their franchises alive by hiring women to play the game. “A League of their Own” is the story of the Rockford Peaches, headed by has-been coach Jimmy Dugan (played by Tom Hanks). Although unenthusiastic at first, Dugan starts to take an interest in the team and his girls, and by the end of the season, Rockford is in the finals.
GHOSTBUSTERS (1984)
Directed by Ivan Reitman, Starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis
Time: 2:00-4:00pm, Friday, July 21, 2006
Venue: 3rd Floor, Rose Garden Tower, 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi
Ghostbusters is one of the best American comedies of the 1980’s. Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler are three parapsychology professors at Columbia University in New York City. When the scientists are fired from their jobs, they go into business as a ghost extermination company called "Ghostbusters". Their job is to trap and remove ghosts from haunted houses. At first, people are skeptical, but business is soon busy as the Ghostbusters help get rid of the ghosts in New York City. When a downtown skyscraper becomes the center of spirit activity linked to the ancient demon Gozer, however, the problem may be more than the team can handle.
