Visions of Vietnam: A Country and Its People

Photographer Peter Steinhauer, an American based in Hong Kong, is known for documenting different facets of Asian culture. His black-and-white images of Vietnam are a significant part of his portfolio, which includes both landscapes and portraits. In this 1995 image of Lai Chau Valley, in Vietnam’s Lai Chau Province, Steinhauer captures mountain silhouettes wreathed in clouds. A winding road, at right, snakes through the valley.
