Standardized Tests

About the speakers: Trinh Dieu Ly received her MA in TESOL from California State University, East Bay. Ly has spent many years in the U.S. researching and teaching TOEFL ibt, SAT, GRE and GMAT.

Join EducationUSA advising workshop where experts will offer invaluable insight on how to apply & be admitted at colleges and universities across the U.S.!

About the speaker: Ms. Yuki Kondo-Shah was the admission counselor at Stanford University from 2008 to 2010. Yuki is pursuing her Master’s degree in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School to prepare for the foreign service. Yuki is currently doing her summer internship in the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi.

EducationUSA Vietnam in coordination with the Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) will be hosting an Oral Examination Orientation (OEO) for VEF fellows and other interested audiences. At the Orientation, participants will not only get helpful advice on how best to prepare for fellowship interviews but also have a chance to learn experience and insights gained from VEF fellows who successfully passed the interviews for VEF Fellowship in the most recent cohort of 2011. Remarkably, the presentation by Dr. Lynne McNamara – VEF Executive Director will provide tips and guidance for the VEF interview preparation, in particular and for the VEF fellowship application, in general. This is a valuable opportunity for those who are interested in the VEF Fellowship and graduate studies in the United States. Others who are interested in learning about preparing for fellowship interviews are welcome to attend.

“How to Prepare for Success in Graduate Studies in the United States”

The Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) is a U.S. independent Federal Government agency, which began operations in 2003. The VEF mission is to build the bilateral relationship between the United States and Vietnam through educational exchange activities in science, engineering, mathematics, technology, and medicine, including public health. VEF focuses on fellowships and grants for Vietnamese and U.S. nationals and on capacity building projects in Vietnam.

On Tuesday, February 22, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., VEF will hold a talk show entitled “How to Prepare for Success in Graduate Studies in the United States”. VEF Fellow, Nguyen Minh Anh, who received the VEF Fellowship in 2007 to pursue Ph.D. degree in Computer Sciences at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), will lead the show. From his personal experiences of over four years studying at UIUC, Minh Anh will share his observations on strengths and weaknesses of Vietnamese students in the U.S. academic environment, information about the U.S. graduate education system as well as his recommendations to prepare and strike for international scholarships. The talk show will give useful tips to address two questions 1) how to gain admission to the top U.S. schools, and 2) how to be successful in the U.S. academic environment.

VEF welcomes all audiences, who are interested in graduate study in the United States to attend.

VEF is grateful to Education USA of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi for hosting this talk show.
