Current Trends In Vietnam’s Economy

Vietnam's economy has developed rapidly since the Vietnamese Government adopted its "doi moi" policy of reform and opening in 1986. However, there remain considerable structural problems in Vietnam's economy that will impede further development unless they are addressed. State enterprise reform, financial sector reform and restructuring of Vietnam's trade and investment regimes, as well as introduction of more transparency in its business regulation and law are all necessary if Vietnam is to ensure its economic development is strong and sound. Vietnam continues to make progress in all these areas, although much work remains. Vietnam's commitments in the U.S.-Vietnam Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA) as well as its negotiations with World Trade Organization (WTO) members provide a clear path to Vietnam's integration into the world economy, which can provide tremendous benefits to Vietnam's people.

Below are links to a variety of reports, both by the U.S. Embassy Economic Section as well as other organizations, about Vietnam's economic development and reforms.
